We had the pleasure of sitting down with Holly to explore the depths of her captivating narrative.
Holly, your journey from PR to founding PAMPELONE Clothing is truly inspiring. Can you share with us more about what you’re working on today and what motivated you to make such a significant career pivot?
My journey began in PR, where I worked with some incredible household names like Tiffany & Co and SPANX, alongside trailblazing female entrepreneurs such as Sara Blakey and Olcay Gulsen. A pivotal insight I gained was that you don’t necessarily need the best product; with the right marketing, any business can achieve remarkable success. That realization ignited my desire to launch my own venture. I led PAMPELONE for seven exhilarating years, achieving great milestones, but I made the decision to sell it four years ago when I welcomed my second daughter. Today, I thrive as a brand consultant, leveraging my experiences to help businesses scale.”
The Secret Sauce to Success: PAMPELONE became one of the fastest-growing brands in its sector. What do you attribute that success to, and what lessons did you learn along the way?
PAMPELONE swiftly ascended to become one of the fastest-growing brands in its niche. The secret? Absolutely marketing. I truly understood my customer and embraced the rise of social media at its inception. By prioritizing our marketing channels, we created multiple touchpoints that allowed customers to connect with the brand on a deeper level, ultimately leading to conversions.”
One critical lesson I learned was to never assume who your customer is or that their profile remains static. For years, I believed our audience was comprised of young, 20-something women. However, in reality, our research revealed a slightly older demographic—my own aunt, to be precise! This insight shifted my entire marketing strategy.
Consulting: A New Chapter of Impact: Now that you’re consulting for a diverse array of brands, what excites you most about this new phase of your career?”
I love that I can be instrumental in such a variety of businesses. Different businesses need differing levels and areas of expertise and I love the deep delve into it to try and pin point where needs my attention. And I just love the challenge of then rectifying this and equipping the in house teams to go away and implement my strategies.
Empowering Future Leaders: You’ve recently launched a masterclass for aspiring entrepreneurs. What inspired this initiative, and what can participants expect to gain from it?
I was inspired to create the Masterclass because I was just getting so many enquiries for my services which I just cannot fulfil. As a full time mother there are only limited clients I can take. Second to this my usual day-rate is sometimes out of people’s price range. I wanted to be able to share as much of my expertise with as many of these people as possible because most of it is basic principles that so many businesses get wrong. These principles create the foundation of a successful business.
Wisdom for the Aspiring Entrepreneur: What sage advice would you offer to those contemplating a career pivot or launching their own venture?
My biggest advice I always give is to really think about whether you have the time and financial resources to actually start a business. Many businesses fail because people just don’t have the resources to support their business. Second is to research! Research research research! And if after all the research you feel like your business idea is still viable - then just go for it!
