1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us more about your work at Landmass?
My name is Poppy Evans, and I bring a background in luxury retail and high-end residential development to my role as Head of Business Development at Landmass. I'm passionate about understanding what excites people, as well as art, design, and the process of creating something new. This passion aligns perfectly with my responsibilities, making my work feel less like a job and more like a fulfilling endeavour.
In my role, I focus on structuring and innovating our core company disciplines and internal processes, which include engaging and nurturing our team. I also build and maintain strong relationships with our clients, meeting their needs and desires. Additionally, I seek out new opportunities in design and development that align with our values and goals, driving the company's growth and success.
2. What’s one thing you know now about business that you wish you’d known when you first started?
One crucial lesson I've learned is that your attitude can be the root cause of your success. Whether meeting a new investor, sourcing opportunities, or finding synergies for partnerships and collaborations, a positive and innovative mindset is key. Embracing everyday innovation and optimism helps navigate business cycles' natural ebbs and flows. This mindset not only sustains momentum and drives positive change but also becomes contagious, often leading to the creation of new opportunities.
3. What is your big vision for Landmass, and how do you measure success?
One of the unique qualities I love about Landmass is our boutique nature, which fosters a creative, collaborative, and personal approach to each project and client in Prime London. Our unique selling point is our focus on Prime London, one of the most resilient cities in the world with highly sought-after real estate.
Our big vision is to expand beyond other cities or develop large-scale multi-unit schemes. Instead, we aim to create more award-winning developments and properties, helping private clients discover their signature styles through our Architecture & Interior Design practice.
I measure success through the relationships we build and the realisation of bespoke designs through our authentic approach. Success for us is not just about the end product but also about the journey and the enduring partnerships we cultivate along the way.
4. How do you stay on top of industry trends and changes and ensure that your business always has an edge?
In terms of development, we stay well-connected with stock availability, including off-market opportunities. I have a particular interest in discovering off-market trophy assets, which gives us a competitive edge.
To keep up with trends, I'm privileged to be invited to various design launches and events, including Paris Design Week and brand partnership events. These experiences keep me updated on the latest innovations and industry shifts.
Our private clients always come first; their personal stories greatly influence our design inspiration. Understanding where they grew up or who their favourite artist helps us tailor our designs to their unique tastes. Additionally, I frequently visit London and Paris's latest interior design showrooms and stores to stay abreast of current trends and emerging styles.
5. What advice would you give to anyone planning a house refresh or renovation?
